On 2 January, Paris Hilton took over Instagram with her engagement to Chris Zylka who got down on one knee in Aspen. With professional photographers on site, she couldn’t resist sharing this moment with her 8 million Instagram followers.

While we imagine Kim Kardashian gets the shivers just thinking of jewels since her robbery nightmare in Paris last year, Hilton didn’t hold back from showing off her $2 million engagement ring, a pear-shaped 20-carat diamond rock.

“The ring was so gorgeous and sparkling,” Hilton told People magazine after the announcement. “I was shaking as I put it on. It is the most beautiful ring that I have ever seen!”

She wore it for the first time while sporting a black and silver skiing suit and a bomber jacket – not quite the sartorial choice we have come to associate with the 36-year-old reality star.

Where have the blonde locks, chihuahuas and Barbie pink looks all gone? While the model has kissed goodbye to her days in reality TV show The Simple Life in which she starred alongside with BFF Nicole Richie, our eyeballs are still seared with the #TeenParis tweets and her never-seen-before fashion moments that she revealed on social media last year.

The Modelling Times

Paris Whitney Houston was born on February 17, 1981. She is the oldest of four children born to real-estate developer Richard Hilton and socialite Kathy Richards Hilton and is the great-granddaughter of Conrad Hilton – founder of the hotel chain. Her life has been privileged to say the least. Though she went to the finest schools,  Paris dropped out as a high school junior to fulfil her dream of becoming a professional model. At the age of 19, she signed with Donald Trump’s modelling agency, T Management.

She was lens ready. Even from her early teen days, she was posing up a storm including her Valentines Day shoot with sister Nickie while wearing shimmery pink pyjama shorts and an animal print top, at only 13! Probably the most natural and organic version of Paris we’ve ever got to see in daylight…

Aged 15, Paris got to have her first glam night out to attend a black-tie gala in New York. She wore a jade satin off-the-shoulder ballgown, despite knowing that the colour green has ever since been a no-no in fashion. Paris wouldn’t be Paris without the extravaganza, right? Or how she puts it “some girls are just born with glitter in their veins”.

The Party Days

1996 marked the year of ‘bra’s out’ in fashion. Sarah Jessica Parker and Michelle Gellar proved that ‘less is more’ doesn’t always have to be a trashy look. For Paris, it was the year of letting go of the girly image and embracing her body. As she once said: “If you have a beautiful face you don’t need fake boobs to get anyone’s attention.” Let the picture do the talking…

Especially in her party days, her garments got smaller and smaller, as seen below, Paris trying to sneak into a club with a fake ID at only 16, wearing little more than a thread.

And the years of scandals and fashion faux pas began. Leaving behind her girly image she was ready to take on the LA party scene. For her 21st birthday, she dripped in glitter from head to toe and threw not only THE biggest party on earth but instead FIVE, in FIVE days and FIVE time zones to cement her status as LA bash princess. This dress, in particular, kept its powerful influence relevant today, with Kendall Jenner copying the look for her 21st birthday, 14 years later. See three out of the five outfits Paris wore for the five-day bender.

The Simple Life

Paris’s real breakout role came in 2003 when she co-starred with BFF Nicole Richie in the Fox reality series The Simple Life. The series premiered on 2 December 2003, shortly after her scandalous sex tape “One Night in Paris” had gone viral. The series manifested her blonde it-girl image, where she decided to trademark her catchphrase “That’s hot”.

However, her show persona has raised criticism in the past and she was often described as being ‘on-screen dumb’. Paris stated multiple times that she was not playing herself, but a character instead. However, in an interview with Movieline in 2011 Paris said, “I was just playing a cartoon character of me and in this show, they get to see the real me. You know, I’m not always happy. Things make me cry. Things affect me a lot. I really show all of that emotion on the show.”

Thanks to The Simple Life, she manifested her girly-sassy looks and didn’t hold back when it came to the colour pink. The more, the better.

New BFF – Kim Kardashian

Her style changed, when she brought Kim Kardashian onto The Simple Life. The two apparently became besties and were known for partying together. A lot. In fact, Kim was mainly her personal assistant. Yep, she cleaned and organised Paris’ closet multiple times…what are friends for?

After The Simple Life

Blonde locks, socialite, party bae, and NYC IT girl. This was Paris Hilton as we got to know her. A glitzy childhood one could assume, but according to Paris, she wasn’t brought up “spoilt” by her parents. “We always had that work ethic, instilled in my father by his father, and passed on for generations in my family,” she told ES Magazine in April just last year. Now with a wedding around the corner, has she finally grown up? What we know for sure, is that she’s finally found the one in actor Chris Zylka. We’re staying tuned for the wedding, keeping you posted on any HOT updates!
